Ladies First July 2017

LADIES FIRST is a list of new productions, workshops, readings, and publications by female playwrights. Our goal is to create greater gender parity in theatre by highlighting the works of female writers and the organizations that promote and produce their works. 


Little Black Dress INK presents the 2017 Female Playwrights ONSTAGE Festival July 6th through July 8th in Arizona. This year’s theme is Hot Mess, and this year’s non-profit is Days for Girls. The winning lineup of plays includes:

The Worst of All Evils by Philana Omorotionmwan
Evolution Fast Track by Micki Shelton
Three Ghosts of Elizabeth Bathory by Anne Flanagan

Linda by Diana Burbano
Hot/Mess by Jen Huszcza
Mommy Knows Best by Tiffany Antone
Fruit Salad of Shame by Ellen Davis Sullivan
Educated Fleas Do It by Karen Loseff Lothan

The 10-10 New Play Festival is currently running at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre at The River Street Playhouse in Ohio. This biennial series of ten-minute plays includes GWTW Abridged by Annie Taft and Two Girls by Allie Costa. The festival is directed by Yvonne E. Pilarczyk & Dawn Hill and runs through July 15th.

The Summer Shorts Play Series returns to Samuel French, Theatre & Film Bookshop July 29th and 30th. Stay tuned for the lineup!

 To submit to the August issue of LADIES FIRST, email before the end of the month. Send us your name, the name of your play, the name of the theatre producing your work, a sentence or two about the play, the where and when, and an image.
